The Pella, Knoxville and Twin Cedars school districts were among those announced Wednesday as recipients of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool grants. The announcement was made by governor Chet Culver, who stated that over 4,500 more Iowa children will have access to quality preschools in the upcoming school year.
It is projected that during the 2010-2011 school year, an estimated total of 21,354 4-year-old children will be served by the preschool program in 326 school districts across the state. This is the final installment of the Governor’s four-year, $60 million commitment to expand preschool opportunities for Iowa’s young children.
In related news, Pella Schools Superintendent Mark Wittmer says the district still has available slots for preschool students, and parents can contact the Administration Office at 628-1111 during the week of June 21st to fill the vacancies.
