The unemployment rate in Marion County has dipped below the statewide average, according to figures released Tuesday by Iowa Workforce Development. Unemployment for Marion County in the month of May was at 6.5 percent, down from 7.8 percent in April. Marion County’s unemployment rate of 6.5 percent compares to a statewide average of 6.8 percent and the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent.
