Sentences have been handed down in the trial of a husband and wife convicted of using employee retirement contributions at their Pella-based consulting firm to pay for various expenses. James Van Elsen of Urbandale was sentenced Monday to 15 months imprisonment, and his wife, Beth Van Elsen, to 12 months home confinement. In February, the two were convicted in Federal Court of embezzling roughly $213,000 from accounts of their company, Van Elsen Consulting.
