Two of the five large “tainter” gates at Lake Red Rock have been opened to release water from the reservoir. The lake had briefly begun to recede before another heavy round of weekend rains began pushing the lake’s level to near record levels. The all-time high water mark at Lake Red Rock came in July of 1993, when the water crested at 782.67 feet.
Predictions are for the lake to rise to near 781 feet by the weekend, with the in-flow estimated to peak at 70,000 cubic feet per second, and the out-flow at the dam to be increased to 60,000 cubic feet per second.
Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for updated lake levels and forecasts as soon as they become official.
