Two big innings helped Pella Christian to a thrilling 15-9 win at Oskaloosa last night.

The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the first with a two RBI single by Zach Zylstra and and RBI single by Micah Nieboer and took advantage of two Osky errors. The Indians battled back with three runs in the bottom of the first including a two run homer by Jacob McDowell, then added another run on a solo homer by Austin Westercamp in the second to pull within 5-4. Two runs in the third and three more in the fourth gave Osky a 9-5 lead. Then came the fifth inning…and that’s when Pella Christian caught fire sending 15 batters to the plate, pounding out nine hits and scoring 10 runs to blow the game open taking the air right out of Oskaloosa. In that fifth inning, Justin Pastoor went 2-2 with 4 RBI, and Kyle DeRonde also went 2-2 with 2 RBI. Eagles coach Brad Rolffs said when they came to the dugout to start the fifth inning he pulled everyone together to re group and they answered the call in a big way:

For the game the Eagles pounded out 18 hits unofficially led by Pastoor who had 5 RBI for the game, and Zack Zylstra had 3 RBI. Tom Bouwkamp also had four hits in the game. Another thing Rolffs was pleased with was the fact that each batter in the order had at least one hit. Jon Holwerda got the win pitching in relief of Zack Zylstra. The Eagles improved to 10-1 on the season and 4-1 in the LHC while Osky fell to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in LHC play. Pella Christian gets the weekend off and returns to the diamond Monday hosting Newton in a varsity doubleheader and will play eight games in six days next week including the Pella Christian Tournament next Saturday.
