A resolution authorizing the issuance of up to $4.8 million in Sewer Revenue Capital Loan Notes was approved at last week’s Pella City Council meeting. The bonds are for the first tier of improvements to the city’s sanitary sewer system – as mandated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources – and also cover the cost of other improvements to the city’s existing system.

Tier one improvements include a new equalization basin for the wastewater plant and improvements to Lift Station No. 2 and the force main and will cost an estimated $3,464,000; while the replacement and addition of new grinding and screening equipment that will help avoid waste items from plugging the pipes will cost an additional $1.4 million.
