For the first time in 10 years, the Pella softball team completed a season sweep of Oskaloosa winning at Osky last night 11-3. Pella also beat the Indians last Tuesaday in Pella 6-3

Pella got out to a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning off two hits including an RBI single by Whitney Pavlat and an Osky error. Osky answered back with two runs to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning on a two run homerun by Samantha Allgood. From there, it was all Pella as the Lady Dutch blew the game open with six runs on six hits in the third and added one more run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. [simage=2895,200,y,right]

In addition to all the offense, Pella also made some outstanding defensive plays including center fielder Whitney Williams who gunned down a runner trying to score to end the fourth inning andthe defense made a snap play in the bottom of the seventh as first baseman Taylor Veenstra threw out a runner attempting to advance to third which ended the game. Pella coach Krista Demeulenaere credited the girls for bouncing right back after giving up the game tying homerun early in the game saying they have adopted the never say die attitude and rather than getting down on themselkves seemed to get more confident and pumped up to come back. Mandy Demeulenaere got the win allowing ten hits while striking out three and walking two. Whitney Pavlat had two hits and three RBI, Whitney Williams had three hits and a RBI, Rachel Greving had three hits and Lindsay Mueller had two hits and two RBI. In all Pella tallied a season high 14 hits. Pella travels to Chariton for a tough non conference game tonight and Demeulenaere says it’ll be a special occasion tonight as Chariton is holding a breast cancer awareness night and Pella will show their support by wearing pink socks and headbands.

Pella is 10-5 overall, which is their highest season win total in several years and 5-2 in the LHC.
