With the school year nearly finished, the Pella Community School District is already preparing for the 2010-2011 school year, and part of that took place at the most recent board meeting with the approval of next year’s annual progress goals.

“Even though our kids perform at an really exceptionally high level, we do try to set goals and get better every year,” said Pella Schools Superintendent Mark Wittmer. “One of our core values is that we will be better next year than we are this year. That is one of those things that we try to live up to, and in order to do that, we need to set academic goals.”

The district is aiming to improve upon proficiency levels for students in math, reading and science, which are approximately 90 percent or better in each category. Wittmer says while it is a lofty goal to improve upon already high marks, he feels the district has a good plan in place to help reach those goals.
