Pella softball picked up a quality non conference win at North Mahaska last night, beating the 10th ranked team in Class 1A 7-2.

Bri Arkema pitched the distance and got the win allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out five. At the plate Pella had seven hits led by Whitney Pavlat and Rachel Greving who were each 3-4. Pavlat had 2 RBI, Greving and Mackenzie Anthony each had an RBI and Taylor Veenstra was 2-3 with a homerun. The win improved Pella to 15-8 overall.

Pella returns to LHC action tonight with a huge game at cross town rival Pella Christian. Pella beat Pella Christian 11-3 back on June 9th and Lady Dutch coach Krista Demeulenaere says they feel very confident as they try to sweep the season series with the Eagles. She acknowladges it won’t be easy, however, as they know fully the talent of the Eagles and also know they will do everything they can to avoid being swept.

Both teams enter tonight’s contest as part of a three team battle for the top spot in the LHC each with two conference losses, so tonight’s outcome will be big in determining the eventual conference champion. You can hear the varsity game live on 92.1 FM KRLS and kniakrls.com starting around 7:30pm tonight.
