Pella Wins Over PC at Principal Park

Pella and Pella Christian took their show on the road yesterday to Principal Park in Des Moines, and for the second time this season, Pella came out on top winning 3-1.

The Eagles scored first in the top of the second inning on an RBI triple by Jordan Rossler scoring Justin Pastoor who singled earlier in the inning. Pella did not have a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning when Chris Bandstra smacked a one out double then scored to tie the game on an RBI triple by Alan Pfadenhauer . That’s the way it stayed until the bottom of the sixth when Bandstra drew a one out walk and the next batter Ryan Lanke smashed a two run homerun over the left field wall to put Pella ahead 3-1 and despite a triple from Tom Bouwkamp in the top of the seventh, Pella Christian was unable to answer back. Both teams used three pitchers and Schyler Kane got the win with Ryan Lanke getting the save for Pella while Micah Nieboer took the loss for Pella Christian.

Pella coach Aaron Reasland said Lanke has been working hard on becoming a better hitter and it paid off. Reasland says a major emphasis this year has been learning how to finish games strong and they’re responding.

Pella Christian coach Brad Rolffs says they just made too many mistakes to win a close game.
The Eagles grounded into two double plays and had two runners caught trying to steal and he says those mistakes just can’t happen if you want to win games. The Eagles have now dropped four of their last five games, all of which they either led or were tied late in the game, but Rolffs says there’s no need to panic as they’ll work on fixing those mistakes in the final two weeks of the season to get ready for Districts.

Pella is off until Monday while Pella Christian hosts South Tama tonight. Pella improved to 7-6 overall while Pella Christian fell to 13-5. The game did not count as a LHC game. The two meet again July 7th for a varsity doubleheader at Pella Christian.
