Rains and cloudy skies passed through just in time Thursday afternoon, allowing for another well-attended “Thursdays in Pella” event. Marion County bank served nearly 3,000 free hamburger meals in celebration of their 75th anniversary, and sponsored free inflatable games for children.

The night also featured several contests as part of the “Blast from the Past” night, sponsored by KNIA/KRLS. 12-year-old Taylor Bolt, daughter of Kevin and Kim Bolt, won the hula hoop contest. Brianna Jansen, daughter of Tracy and Kent Jansen placed second.

Taylor’s sister – 8-year-old Molly Bolt – was a contest winner as well, as judges selected her as the best in the twist contest, and 7-year-old Elyse Kriegel was runner-up. Elyse is the son of Mark and Jamie Kriegel.

The night also included the popular (and often messy) bubble gum-blowing contest. 12-year-old Sebastian Martin, son of Andrew and Sherry Martin blew the biggest bubble in the finals; while 14-year-old Autumn Turner, daughter of Mark and Jennifer Turner, placed second.

A classic car show also returned this year as part of “Blast from the Past”, with awards for “Best in Show” – which went to Larry Kuiper; 2nd Place – claimed by Doug Van Gorkom; and “People’s Choice” – which was awarded to Dan Hughes.

Other highlights of the evening included a performance by popular Elvis Impersonator Allan Robuck, and a concert by the Pella City Band.
