Changes to Flood Management Would be Difficult, says Operations Manager at Red Rock

Earlier this week, Governor Chet Culver proposed a re-evaluation of the flood management system for Iowa’s reservoirs by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Sherri Duey, Operations Manager at Lake Red Rock, says while the governor’s request does have some power behind it, it’s not an easy change to make.
Duey says the re-evaluation of current flood management would be a time-consuming and costly undertaking, and would have to be approved by Congress to move forward. The current flood management plan for Lake Red Rock was originally drafted in 1969, and was revised in 1988 to increase the normal conservation pool elevation. Another small revision to the plan was made in 2003.
