Thanks to an Assistance to Firefighters Grant the Indiana Township Fire Department has been able to add a new tanker truck to their fleet. According to Chief Mike Legvold the 2010 Pierce DX Contender Tanker has a 2,100 gallon tank and is capable of pumping 500 gallons per minute. The new truck replaces the department’s 1974 tanker that was converted from a farm truck. The total cost of the tanker was $151,000, with $142,500 being paid for by the government through the grant. Legvold says the former Fire Chief was able to get the department a $185,000 pumper truck back in 2004, and they have been very fortunate in their grant applications. Both trucks will be in this year’s Knoxville nationals parade.
