Today we celebrate our county’s independence. The 4th of July commemorates Congress’ adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th of 1776.

With the 4th falling on a Sunday this year, Marion County communities chose to hold their Independence Day celebrations on the 2nd and 3rd. Various events were held in Leighton, Pleasantville, Pella and Bussey this weekend that included everything from parades and fireworks to carnival games and tractor pulls.
Each community’s event had its own unique atmosphere, all the while honoring the men and women that have served to keep our nation free, and celebrating everything red, white and blue.
