The Pella baseball team put both their overall and conference records back on the positive side of .500 last night, with a Varsity doubleheader sweep of South Tama. The Little Dutch ripped the Trojans in game one, needing only four innings to secure a 16-1 win.

Alex Hardine pitched all four innings for Pella, striking out five, walking none and giving up four hits. Offensively, the entire Little Dutch line-up batted well, highlighted by Trevor Wood’s 4-for-4 performance at the plate that included a triple. Wood scored three times and batted in two runs as well. It was senior night for the Pella baseball team, and senior Steven Roose knocked in an RBI with a hit in his one-and-only plate appearance for the game.

Pella came out a little too relaxed in game two, though, as the Little Dutch earned a much closer win with an 8-5 victory. Chris Bandstra pitched a complete game for Pella, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out eight South Tama batters and walking just one.

Pella’s performance at the plate in the nightcap was also a bit lackluster, as Ryan Lanke was the only player to record more than one hit, as he went 2-for-3 with a triple, walked once and scored a run. The wins gave the Little Dutch a 3-0 season sweep of the Trojans and improved Pella’s record to 11-9 overall and 8-7 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
