The Pella Historical Village will celebrate its 31st year of Dutch Kermis this weekend. The Dutch-themed summer festival is free to attend and has become seasonal favorite for local youngsters. This year’s event will include “penny carnival” games, Dutch music, and plenty of sweet treats in the village bakery. Bonnie Verberg, Director of the Vermeer Mill and Pella Historical says one popular attraction allows children to decorate their own cookies – something she admits is a favorite of hers as well.

“My favorite part is they get to frost cookies, and they may put as much frosting on those cookies as they want to,” said Verberg. “That’s a lot of fun to watch the kids, because some of them are very particular on making them very pretty, and some just put as many colors and as much frosting as they can on them. But I admit, I have paid to frost a cookie or two also!”

Kermis will run from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Pella Historical Village.
