After discussion on how to cut expenses from the district’s transportation program, the Pella School Board elected not to pursue any additional fees for students riding district buses for at least the first semester during their meeting Monday. The board will use that time to see if the consolidation of routes to save the usage of one bus will meet the $20,000 goal that was to be cut from the transportation budget. The board will receive further input on the anticipated reduction in expenses in the coming weeks when a report on the district’s cost per mile is established.
In other business, the Pella School Board discussed solutions to the pick-up and drop-off of students at the High School and Jefferson Intermediate. The district’s insurance company will analyze traffic patterns at the High School to offer input, and a second turning lane for vehicles exiting Jefferson Intermediate School was recommended, with the board approving up to $6,500 from the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy fund to pay for the upgrade.
The Pella School Board also approved the purchase of a groomer for the football field at a cost not to exceed $12,500 and a replacement boiler for the steamer in the kitchen at Jefferson Intermediate in the amount of $18,808. Sara Lee and Anderson Erickson were awarded the district’s bread and milk bids, respectively, and Jon Miller was again appointed as the Board Secretary/Treasurer.
