The Fourth of July holiday weekend gets started Friday, and law enforcement agencies across the state will again be out paying close attention to unsafe driving practices to help prevent the loss of lives during the holiday. Iowa had two traffic fatalities over the July 4th holiday in 2009, but the ten-year average for the state over that period is five. Nationally, there were 491 traffic-related deaths on America’s highways in the same time span. Law enforcement will be in force Friday through Monday emphasizing their focus on impaired drivers and other traffic violators.
