Two days into his first-ever RAGBRAI, Knoxville resident Brian Kendall is going strong. Kendall says aside from a thigh cramp that started early Monday morning, the ride has gone smoothly and been enjoyable, adding that he’s enjoyed the experience of riding through the small communities in northern Iowa.

“All the towns we’ve been through have been very, very nice,” said Kendall. “It’s almost like a parade atmosphere – the people that we ride by sit out in their front yard and wave at us.”

Day two of the annual ride across the state took participants on a relatively flat, but long, route from Storm Lake to Algona. Kendall says he’s looking forward to today’s ride, which will take him through the area where he grew up.

“We go through my hometown of Britt probably early in the morning, and then Garner – I’ve got some relatives up there as well – so that’ll be kind of nice,” added Kendall. “Hopefully I’ll get in a good, home-cooked meal there, and it will be nice to see some of the family as well.”

Today’s third stage of the ride will end with an overnight stop in Clear Lake. For an update on Brian’s progress during his first RAGBRAI ride, tune in to the noon newscast during the Marion County Midday Magazine.
