The Pella City Council is expected to further discuss an issue at their upcoming meeting that was introduced at the council’s meeting earlier this month. The Tulip Time Steering Committee has submitted to the council a proposal to expand the placement of vendor booths during Tulip Time into the Molengracht area.

“We already have vendor booths down in the area during Tulip Time – there’s right around four or five vendor booths currently situated in the Molengracht area,” says Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini.

“What’s being talked about is expanding that up to maybe twenty to twenty-three vendor booths in total. Now along with that, when you start talking about vendor booths in the downtown area, it brings up a whole host of issues – everything from the aesthetics of the booths, to just the foot traffic and the congestion in that space, to parking issues.”

The majority of the vendors are located in Pella’s West Market Park during Tulip Time. The Steering Committee says their goal in the proposal is not to take vendors away from the park, but instead to offer more locations and bring more foot traffic through the Molengracht area. The Pella City Council meets again on August 17th.
