The Pella School Board received an update on changes to the pick-up and drop-off area at Jefferson Intermediate during their meeting Monday afternoon. Superintendent Mark Wittmer informed the board that concrete for a new turning lane onto Vermeer Road has been poured, and needs to be striped to be finished. Hopes are that the turning lane will help alleviate congestion in the area.

Also related to school construction projects, the board approved the first payment in the amount of $82,804 to TK Concrete for the High School parking lot addition, approved a payment of $5,887 to the project’s engineer, and made the final payment to Woodman Controls in the amount of $20,240 for upgrades to the district’s HVAC systems.

In other business, the Pella School Board voted to tentatively approve funding for a seventh section of fifth grade if the Federal Jobs Bill passes in the U.S. House; set increases the the costs of renting school facilities and discussed changes to the district’s wellness policy.
