A landmark which once stood tall at the Knoxville VA campus is now gone. As reported earlier this month by KNIA/KRLS news, the soldier and United States flag portion of the wooden statue near West Pleasant Street on the VA campus rotted and fell over several weeks ago. VA officials discovered that the small boy, which was the only remaining portion of the statue, also rotted and was removed from its stump. VA officials removed the rest of the rotted statue late last week.
