Just two days after winning the inaugural USAC Knoxville Nationals, Bud Kaeding again proved to be one of the best in non wing racing as he claimed the USAC Ultimate Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa last night. Kaeding, who started outside row three, passed Bryan Clauson on lap 11 and was able to hold on for the win and collect the $15,000 payout. Clauson finished second followed by his Tony Stewart Racing teammate Levi Jones, Damion Gardner and Jerry Coons JR rounded out the top five. Brady Bacon finished sixth, Kevin Swindell was eighth, and Robby Wolfgang finished 14th . Heat winners included Kyle Larson, Dave Darland and Tracy Hines. The race ended just in time as heavy rains and lightning moved in about a half hour after the checkered flag An exciting but emotional moment began the night when the 77 car of the late Jesse Hockett, last year’s Ultimate Challenge winner rolled onto the front stretch driven by Jesse’s father Jack in a tribute to Jesse who tragically lost his life earlier this season. Racing action now shifts back to the Knoxville Raceway for night one of the 50th annual Good Year Knoxville Nationals starting tonight. We’ll have live coverage starting with Live Trackside at 6pm and flag to flag coverage of the racing starting at 7:30pm on KNIA/KRLS and kniakrls.com
