The City of Knoxville recently received a request from the East Central Iowa Transportation to formally support the nomination of the 97 miles of U.S. highway 63 that stretches from Oskaloosa to Waterloo as part of the National Highway or Iowa Commercial Industrial Network. The council discussed the matter at their meeting this week and City Manager Dick Schrad shared that it is unlikely that there will be federal transportation funding allocated to both this and the Pella to I-80 corridor, which the city has formally supported. Therefore, the council decided that this stretch of highway would have less of an impact on Knoxville and chose not to support it unless they can be assured that both projects would be eligible for federal support.
