A Pella man was hospitalized following a single-vehicle, rollover accident Saturday morning west of Pella. 24-year-old Joseph Wayne Hopkins, Jr. was traveling westbound on Highway 163, when a vehicle in front of him began slowing to make a turn. Hopkins did not notice the other vehicle and swerved to avoid a collision, at which time he lost control of the vehicle; rolling the car multiple times and coming to a rest in the north ditch near 190th Avenue.

Hopkins was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle. He was the only passenger in the vehicle, and was transported by Pella Ambulance to Pella Regional Health Center with apparent non-life threatening injuries. The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
