With a lot of new faces in their offensive lineup this year one goal the Pella football team has during their first two non district games is establishing an identity for this year’s team. So, with one game in the books.. a 35-14 win at Newton Friday night.. how is that goal progressing?

Coach Jay Mckinstrey says one area they watched closely was the offensive line with three new starters and two returners that are also playing full time defense. He was very pleased with how they played and how the kids elevated their level of play and he says that’s an area they’ll continue to watch to try and develop depth so they can rotate players in and out and stay fresh. He also says they will continue to focus on their ground game under center and only use the shotgun sparingly this season . He says that appears to favor the strengths of this years team more at least at this point of the season. He says they obviously still have things to work on and improvements to make, but he says he did see a lot of good things in their first game to build off of.

Pella goes back to work this week in practice and will continue their preparation for district play when they host Knoxville Friday night .
