Residents in the city of Knoxville have received nearly 11 inches of rain in the past three days which has created problems for the city’s sewer system.  Public Works Director Jeff May says the large amount of rainfall received this week is more than the city’s system can carry away.  May says he has received numerous calls from residents reporting that they have water in their basements.  He says the city is aware of the problem but unfortunately the sewer is overloaded to a point where pumping is not enough to get rid of the extra water.  May says right now all that can be done is to wait and hope we don’t receive more rain so that the systems can catch up and appreciates residents cooperation and understanding during this difficult situation.
