Central College has announced an international studies scholarship that will be named after a long-time professor at the college. The scholarship is being named in honor of Maxine Huffman, a professor of Biology and English at Central from 1953 to 1996. It will be awarded to one or more students planning to attend their first overseas study program.

To receive the scholarship, a student must be at least a sophomore in school, and have committed to progress in international study courses prior to attending one of Central’s study abroad programs. Additionally, a recommendation must be submitted by the student’s academic adviser and from the department chair of the student’s major.

Maxine Huffman and her husband Don were avid supporters of International and cross-cultural studies. The scholarship is supported by friends, colleagues and family members of Maxine Huffman, and will be given out for the first time this fall.
