There’s been another delay to the start of a resurfacing project on a major Pella street. After being rescheduled to start Monday, an asphalt overlay project that would span an eight-block stretch from South Main to Oskaloosa Street near Pella Corporation has now been pushed back another three to four weeks.
That’s according to Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert, who says the project’s contractor – Norris Asphalt – has said a lack of available material for the project has forced the delay. Rains throughout the summer have continuously pushed back the project, which was to have started in June.
The project is being funded through federal dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), of which the City of Pella received roughly $354,000. The milling and resurfacing project will close the road once work begins and is expected to take two to three weeks to complete.
