What feels a little like a field trip to the country will be in downtown Pella Thursday night, as “Ag in the City” takes place during Thursdays in Pella. Larry Rowley with Marion County Farm Bureau, which organizes the event, explains that “Ag in the City” is meant to be both fun and informative.

“Basically, ‘Ag in the City’ is a way of getting the rural-urban people together with the crop farmers and livestock farmers, and having a good time together to exchange ideas and let people know a little bit more about agriculture and what goes on on the farm,” said Rowley.

The event will include home-style food, rides for kids and musical entertainment on the Tulip Toren, as well as millions of dollars in farm machinery on display. Rowley says he enjoys being part of an event that is such a cooperative effort.

“All the commodity groups in Marion County and all of the ag dealers, the sponsors, they just step up and they help they help a lot in contributing funds to help finance the event,” said Rowley. “There will also be door prizes, and it’s just the cooperation of everyone involved. I think the part we enjoy the most is the people coming out and having fun with all of the activities going on.”

The event itself and all rides are free at “Ag in the City”, which will run from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening in downtown Pella.
