Two local high school graduates have received scholarships in honor of Iowa’s Bird Lady. Knoxville High School graduate Lacy Stevenson and Pleasantville High School graduate Curvin Wentz have been selected as this year’s recipients of the Gladys Black Scholarship. The scholarship fund was established by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and Red Rock Environmental Education Foundation in 2004 and is awarded each year to students from Marion County who participate in environmental activities. Stevenson plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College this fall to major in public service and administration in agriculture, while Wentz will attend Iowa Lakes Community College to study environmental science.
