Two former Marion County girls basketball standouts recently received a very prestigious award. Both Former Knoxville Standout Sam Abens and Twin Cedars’ Lindsay Hoehns were nominated this year to the McDonalds High School All-American Team. While neither girl made the final cut Abens’ coach Jim Utiermarkt says that is a very big honor just to get nominated being one of 35 girls in Iowa and 900 nationally.

Abens helped lead Knoxville to its first state tournament in 35 years this season and will play at Southwest Minnesota State this winter, while Hoehns became only the fourth girl in Iowa basketball history to score 2,000 points and grab 2,000 rebounds for a career.
