After travelling almost 3000 miles all across the midwest racing go karts with the Mid America Speedway National Kart Series, a Pella youth capped off his season in a big way this past weekend in the series finale.
11 year old Drew Janssen won three of the four classes he entered and became a three time Grand National champion, taking home the Eagle trophy which is one of three exclusive titles sought by all kart racers ranging in age from five years up to 45. [simage=4087,200,y,right]
The series draws kart racers from Texas, the Carolina’s, Georgia, Kansas and Missouri among others.
Drew is a sixth grade student at Jefferson Intermediate in Pella and comes from a racing heritage. His dad, Jerry Janssen, raced a sprint car at Knoxville in the late 80′s and early 90′s and is also a former kart racer, and his older brother Cole also competes in kart and serves a crew member for Drew. A family friend who is currently serving the U.S. overseas in Kosovo, funded and sponsored Drew’s engine. ‘
Over the years, karting has served as a stepping stone for many professional drivers ranging from USAC, Sprint Cars and even NASCAR. For more information on the series go to www.kartseries.com
