Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat is not recommending boating on Lake Red Rock west of the Mile Long Bridge as the Army Corp of Engineers draws down the lake for dam maintenance. As previously reported, the Corp of Engineers will draw down the reservoir 10 feet in order to replace the lifter cables for the dam’s tainter gates. Sheriff Goemaat says as drawdown continues the level will decrease at a faster rate and boaters have the potential to get stuck in the mud flats, leaving first responders few options to get them out. The drawdown is expected to last until mid-December.
