Central College forward Brett McKenzie knocked home an early goal, his seventh of the year, and it was enough to extend the Dutch men’s soccer win streak to eight games with a 1-0 decision at Augustana College last night. The Dutch are ranked sixth in this week’s NCAA Division III North Region poll, Central had to withstand a second-half Augustana assault. McKenzie put the Dutch on top in the 22nd minute with an unassisted goal, his seventh of the year, as Central outshot the Vikings 10-5 in the opening period. McKenzie had seven of Central’s 15 shots on the night. Quincy Garner, a senior from Pella was filling in at goalkeeper recorded his second win of the year and made eight saves for his first shutout. Saturday the Dutch return to Iowa Conference play and tackle perennial power Loras College who were ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III preseason poll and have won four straight conference titles and were a unanimous preseason pick to repeat. Central was tabbed for fourth. Game time is 4 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field.
With 30 seconds left to play, the Central College women’s soccer team nearly scored the tying goal before taking a 1-0 loss to Monmouth Tuesday. After the Fighting Scots fouled just outside the penalty area the Dutch knocked in the would-be tying goal but saw the goal waved off as Central was caught offside. The Dutch return to Iowa Conference play Saturday hosting Loras at 2 p.m
