The State of Iowa is attempting to increase and put a cap on the Hotel-Motel tax at 12%, a 5% increase on what it currently stands at. Pella Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Jill Vandevoort says that if the bill is passed, it would be a state wide cap but it wouldn’t necessarily effect Pella. Pella’s Hotel-Motel Tax is 7% but if the new bill passes they would have the choice to increase their tax up to 12%. Vandevoort says that she has mixed feelings on the new proposal because she is very happy with how tourism in Pella has been. The new proposal started last year and could make it’s way through the legislature in the near future.
