A local winery took home several medals at a recent international competition exclusively for wines made from grapes grown in cold climates. Tassel Ridge Winery, located near Leighton, earned a total of five medals at the 2010 International Cold Climate Wine Competition, highlighted by a gold medal for the winery’s Star Spangled White variety. Silver medals went to the 2008 Iowa Edelweiss, Iowa Prairie Snow, and Finale Premier Red varieties, while Tassel Ridge’s Pizzeria and Pasta Too! wine won bronze. Tassel Ridge Winery is located just off Highway 163 between Pella and Oskaloosa.
