Nice Weather Helps Farmers During Harvest

As soon as harvest began it seemed like farmers were delayed again by the rain that occurred last week. Now, with the nice weather in Marion County during the last two days, farmers are back out there harvesting soybeans primarily. Justin Huebner from Two Rivers Cooperative tells KNIA/KRLS News that it is more important to harvest the soybeans on nice days like this than it is corn because farmers need nicer days for beans. Huebner went on to say that yields are averaging 135-155 for corn and beans are averaging around 45 bushels per acre, both about 25% less than last year. Huebner says even though last year was wet, it’s much better for crops if the weather is cool and wet as opposed to hot and wet like it has been this year.
