Pella Christian had a hot start last night but suffered their first loss of the season falling 34-25 to Bondurant Farrar to start Class 2A District 8 play.

Sam Tvedt broke loose and returned the game’s opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead just seconds into the game 7-0. Tvedt then struck again later in the opening quarter on a 75 yard run for a score and the Eagles led 13-0 after one quarter. Following a Bondurant Farrar score, Kyle Nikkel connected on a big pass to Alex Fynaardt taking the Eagles all the way down to the Bluejay three yard line and a couple plays later Fynaardt scored on a two yard run to make it a 19-7 lead midway through the second quarter, but that’s when the Bluejays took over adding two more scores to lead 21-19 at halftime.

Pella Christian scored first in the third quarter as Alex Fynaardt scored his second touchdown of the night on a 22 yard run, but the Bluejays answered just three minutes later to re gain the lead 27-25. The game changing moment came on the opening play of the fourth quarter when Pella Christian had second and goal inside the one yard line, but fumbled the snap and Bondurant Farrar recovered erasing a possible score that would have given the Eagles the lead. The Eagle defense forced the Bluejays to punt and got the ball back, however couldn’t move the ball offensively and were forced to punt. The Bluejays then added the finishing touch on the next snap breaking a 74 yard run with just over six minutes remaining in the game to win 34-25.

Bondurant Farrar racked up 456 yards total offense, 372 of which came via the ground while Pella Christian totaled 340 yards. Bret Nieuwsma led the Eagles on the ground with 102 yards on 17 carries, while Tvedt gained 88 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns , Kyle Nikkel struggled completing six of sixteen passes for 124 yards and Alex Fynaardt caught four passes for 105 yards while also rushing for two touchdowns.
