The Melcher-Dallas Police Department, Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State patrol responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of highway S45 and highway G58/Perry Drive around 5:45am yesterday. According to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, 44 year-old Tammy McBride of Knoxville was driving eastbound in her 2006 Saturn Ion and was attempting to turn north on S45 when she noticed a 1996 Fort Taurus driven by 27 year-old Joesph Bianchi of Des Moines was traveling south on S45. McBride was attempting a backing maneuver off the roadway on Perry Drive when Bianchi noticed her vehicle in the southbound lane. Bianci attempted to avoid collision by braking and steering to the right but struck McBride’s vehicle broadside in the intersection. His vehicle came to rest on the roadway while McBride’s Ion came to rest in the southwest ditch. McBride was transported via ambulance to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries she was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Bianchi was uninjured and received no citations.
