Area first responders and Mercy One conducted a training exercise in Marion County Thursday. The drill was coordinated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Fire Department and Mercy One. The dispatch office told local first responders there was a helicopter down in the county and its last known coordinates were near Rutledge Street and highway 14. It took the local first responders 33 minutes to locate the helicopter, which Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat considered a success. Also participating in the drill was the Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Columbia Fire and Rescue, Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue and Knoxville Airport.
