The Knoxville Boys Cross Country Squad won the Little Hawkeye Conference because in Coach Mike Moats’ words, everybody stepped up. The seven runners all finished in the top 30 led by Jamie VanderVeer’s first place finish. VanderVeer beat Pella’s Zach Buchheit to the line by over 15 seconds. VanderVeer said the key to the race was at the fifth hold of the Pine Knolls Golf Course where there is a downhill portion of the course. He said Buchheit pulled away from him a bit, but VanderVeer said he was not going let Buchheit pull away too far. The two will run against each other next Thursday when both teams run in the class 3A District meet.
