As we switch into the fall season, it’s also time to change the mowing height for your lawns. Marion County Extension Office Program Director Dale Miller says typically we raise our mowing height to between 3 and 3.5 inches in the summer to hold in the moisture, though that wasn’t a problem this summer. Miller says it’s a good idea to bring that height back down to between two and two and a half inches. He also encourages residents to mulch up their leaves with the cut grass rather than raking them up and cover it with a thin layer of fertilizer to serve as a large compost area. Miller says not only is this an easier process it’s also beneficial for the future of your lawn.
