Building off their third straight district championship, and a school record 8-1 regular season, Pella Christian opens the Class 2A Playoffs at home tomorrow night hosting Roland Story.

There are a few seniors on this years team which have started on all three district championship teams, two of which are quarterback Kyle Nikkel and his number one receiver Trey Hugen. Coach Rich Kacmarynski says the off season work Nikkel put in over the summer has really paid off this season and he’s a true senior leader on this team. Nikkel has completed 94-147 passes for 1534 yards through the regular season and has thrown 19 touchdowens compared to just three interceptions, which give him a quarterback rating of 190.2 and ranks him near the top in Class 2A, but Kacmarynski says it’s his smart decisions of when to run, when to throw and not forcing things like in years past that has been his biggest improvement.

The Eagle defense has been just as impressive this season with several tackles for loss and have forced 13 interceptions which Kacmarynski says makes them a tough all around team. He says their pass rush has vastly improved as they continue to frustrate the opposing quarterback forcing him to make bad decisions which allows the secondary to make big plays.

The top seeded Eagles host 4th seeded Roland Story tomorrow night with kickoff at 7pm. You can hear the game streaming live on kniakrls.com with Jamie Brockman and Nate Van Wyk starting with the pre game at 6:30pm. There will also be a delayed broadcast on 92.1 FM KRLS starting around 10pm.
