This weekend a writer and historian in Pella will be taking individuals on an Underground Railroad Tour. Valerie Van Kooten is hosting a two-day trip to sites of the Underground Railroad in Iowa on October 2nd and October 3rd. The Underground Railroad was a network of safe houses used by slaves in the 19th century. Van Kooten says that even though Iowa was a Union state, many people traveled into Iowa from Missouri since Missouri was a slave state. Spaces are limited and if you want more information you can call Vallerie at 628-9789.
