Anhydrous Leak Near Highway G-44 Last Night

An anhydrous leak occured north side of Knoxville near highway G44 yesterday evening, as reports came in at approximately 6:45pm. Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Emergency Management and Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene.  According to an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office a hose became detached from an anhydrous applicator and nurse tank in a field approximately 40 yards off of highway G44. Due to weather conditions, a large plume of anhydrous gas, that is dangerous if inhaled, was blown across the roadway and all motorists were told to stay away from highway G-44 through the duration on the event.

According to officials on the scene, two individuals were transported to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics for treatment including one motorist who had a hard time breathing after driving through the plume. She was treated and released approximately one hour later.

Approximately three households in the area were evacuated temporarily by the Knoxville Rural Fire Department and the situation was under control by around 7:50pm.
