Central College senior defensive end Shane Wong has been named the Iowa Conference’s Most Valuable Defensive Player as the Dutch landed 13 players on the 2010 all-league football teams Friday. Wong is the first Central player to receive MVP honors since quarterback Tim Connell in 2007, and it’s the 14th MVP award in the program’s history. Of Central’s picks there are eight seniors, six juniors and two sophomores.

Wong was honored for the third time after being named a first-team pick last year and receiving honorable mention in 2008. He compiled a league-leading 11 sacks for a loss of 63 yards and had 49 tackles, including 34 solos, with 17 tackles for loss. He was named the league’s defensive player of the week twice (Sept. 13, Nov. 1) and selected to the D3football.com team of the week (Sept. 13).
