At approximately 9:15am, the Pella Police Department received a call about a fire at Highway T-14 and Dakota Avenue, just north of Pella. Pella Fire and Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat responded to the call which turned out to be a controlled burn that was not called in. Sheriff Goemaat tells KNIA/KRLS News that a farmer was clearing out a grater ditch and was burning the brush. Goemaat adds that all controlled burns are required to be reported before they begin and the farmer must have some type of fire suppression equipment in case the fire gets out of control. The fire department, along with Sheriff Goemaat issued a warning to the farmer to make sure that he reports his controlled burns.
