Recent studies show individuals who exercise are less likely to get the flu and if they do it will be a weaker case that doesn’t last as long as those who don’t exercise. Registered Nurse Judi Van Hulzen with Marion County Public Health says this is the case for several reasons. She says exercising builds your immunity, strong muscles and good mental health all of which work together to help our bodies fight off infections. Van Hulzen says we’re naturally made to fight diseases but anything we can do to make ourselves stronger, such as exercise, can really give us the edge when combating against bad viruses and bacteria.
