Harvest Season Effects the County’s Secondary Roads

As farmers wrap up the harvest season, many large pieces of machinery travel on roads across the area. Marion County Engineer Roger Schletzbaum says the heavy machinery adds stress to secondary roads in the county, but luckily both farmers and Mother Nature seem to be cooperating this fall. Schletzbaum says their two main concerns with harvest season is the machinery traveling over bridges with a load limit and farm equipment driving on soft and muddy gravel roads. He says farmers typically do a good job with obeying the load limits and thanks to the dry fall season, soft roads and shoulders have not been much of an issue this year.
